3"1/2 floppy disk drive manufactured for IBM by ALPS P/N 38F7802 resources page
from a IBM P70 luggable
which had a defective floppy disk-drive (no media found). Alas a PS/2 one, which are somewhat hard to
find as replacement nowadays (at affordable prices). it i a Alps-model
in the P70 with not too badly leaking capacitors, only the two in the middle were affected and the PCB had no corrosion yet,
while the screw next to the caps had already slightly signs of corrosion, which I could
clean away easily with some Ballistol (a really nice universal cleaning/care oil for electronics,
there must be some kind of special secret additive that dissolves any kind of rust and corrosion).
The PCB got a cleaning with isopropaol and also that oil afterwards.
PreventiveIy removed all of the capacitors, also the five on the controller-board,
which were through-hole types.
The three SMDs next to the release button are notable bipolar-ones!
replaced this three with Panasonic ECEA1HN4R7U (4,7uF/50V BIPOLAR),
the group of two in the middle is the position where the leaking SMD-caps were found.
As you can see they have been replaced by non-leakable (but prone to burst sometimes :o) tantalum's,
also replaced the five electrolytic-types of the controller-board with tantalum's.
Drive works now like new again! Just for the mechanics it seems like a robust, reliable one.
