Epson 5"1/4 SD-780 floppy disk drive resources page

Hewlett packard part # : D2881-60001

strange behavior:

"strange" spare 1.2 MB HD drive that I can use to replace the defective one. Why strange? It is a rebranded HP drive that in reality is an EPSON SD-780 , for which I cannot find any manual on the internet, so I had to struggle hard to find a jumper that properly selected the drive and made it work (image 2). And this is the only combination that makes the drive working.

images show overall views of the drive.

Ok, it works fine: it reads and it formats, but it shows a bizarre front led behaviour. Setting the jumper as shown above makes the led immediately lit yellow, without a floppy inside and without any activity performed.

Inserting a floppy disk and starting any type of job, I expected to see the led blink, to show that there is activity. Oh, and I also thought to see the led change its colour to red, but nothing of these things happen. The drive works, but the led stay yellow and still, no changes, never.

Of course trying any combination of the remaining jumpers has no effect on the led, and not having any manual it's hard to find a solution.
