-IC Common Part Number Codes

Many partnumbers for ICs contain some common elements.
The examples below are for the 4xxx series of ICs. (i.e. CD74HC4000 or CD4000B)
Prefixes
CD : CMOS Digital
MM : MOS Monolithic
MN : CMOS
74 : Industrial Applications (0-70 deg C) 74xx/54xx TTL Series Pin Compatible
HC : High Speed CMOS as fast as LS TTL family (Low Power Schottky)
Suffixes
B : Buffered Output

- Manufacturer's Date Code

The manufacturer's Code is usually a four-digit number. This code is the date of the run in which a particular IC was manufactured. The first two digits represent ther year, and the last two digits represent the week. For example a code of 9504 would represent the fourth week of 1995 (the last week of January).
