the software is still available on the net, on DataIO's FTP site:
http://ftp.dataio.com/sprint/optima/nt/
(should also work on Windows XP -or Windows 2000)
AFAIR, the software in the "../windows" directory is for Windows 9x
and
will not run on Win2k/XP.

Power supply to be used with the programmer
Not sure if I can help there. My SMS48 was already unlocked for 48 pins, so
all I had to do was patch the expiration date. Unfortunately, I damaged my EEPROM
during testing, so all i had was the logic analyzer traces I captured earlier,
but those do not contain all registers - the DOS software will not run using
my EEPROM, but the windows NT version works (it seems the windows version queries
fewer EEPROM contents).
The attached SMS48-eeprom2.c contains 2 EEPROM sets - my own (damaged) and
a dump I got from another user, where I don't know what features are enabled.
I suspect that the EEPROM contains other data besides serial number, 48-pin
support and expiration - there were multiple hardware patches to the SMS48,
and I got the impression those were documented in the EEPROM and used by the
software.
That means it is probably not a good idea to simply copy the EEPROM contents from one SMS48 (eg. mine with 48 pin support) to a different unit with different patch level.
IIRC, it was the rotated version - best check using a continutity tester and the 93C46 datasheet. What I can see on SprintPlus48_5.jpg seems to match the rotated pinout (1/2 = VCC, 7/8 = GND).
See the attached SprintPlus48_Power.jpg
- that is the label from the original supply, which I had to remove in order
to open it (bad caps, the screw is under the label).
test done with the software located in dataio/optima/Disk1.zip (I installed it in a Windows 98 machine)
in https://groups.io/g/DataioEPROM/files/Data%20IO/PC%20Software/TaskLink the version that works with Sprint programmers is TLfWin 5.0.zip Report File TaskLink for Windows 5.0 . This installs TaskLink 5.02 , and supports the UniSite, Sprint, and FlashPak programmers
ProLine 48 programmer
this model of programmer integrates a power supply inside the case and is connected to the parallel port of a PC through a straight 1-1, ...,25-25 cable
as the sprint plus48 it integrates 6 ASIC SMS 2840
